Drummer 1684
The Drummer is a person who by the sound of his drum warns the soldier of his duty, or of some new order. There is no company that does not have a Drummer or two, and above all a Drum Major who takes care to instruct the others, and to guard against the enemies who come to the camp. He can chastise with his stick those who fail in their duty and goes night and morning to the Major to inquire about orders. The duty of the Drummers is to beat all the orders such as the assembly, the last post, the march, the alarm, the charge, the review, the order, the retreat, and the call.
