He must be enlisted at the age of twenty-five to thirty, to be more disciplinable than if he were of a more advanced age. It is important to know the place of his birth, and the quality of his parents, to avoid desertion. He must be of a robust constitution, and naturally love horses, to take special care of them. Therefore, a Cavalier from the county is preferable to one from the cities, where there is more delicacy. He must also be sober, and play as little as possible.
